  2. Welcome to the Marietta Systems "c_wndw" and "c_ndx" shareware libraries

  5. This libraries for Turbo C and Quick C provides windows, menus, formatted 
  6. entry, file access, indexed file, and relational database functions.  The 
  7. libraries make it easy to write C programs of professional appearance, 
  8. quality and performance.

  15. The Manual

  18. The shareware manual for this set of software will be found in file 
  19. 'MANUAL' and is 31 pages long.  To print it out type:

  24. Installation
  25. ============
  26.  
  27. To install the software:
  28.  
  29.  for Turbo C - Put the first diskette in drive A: and type A:TURBOC
  30.  
  31.  for Quick C - Put the second diskette in drive A: and type A:QUICKC
  32.  
  33. The software will then install on to the default hard disc drive. 
  34. Installation to diskette will require some changes to these batch files.
  35.  
  36. Both the installation batch files create a directory MARIETTA.  Copy the 
  37. sample *.C programs into this directory.  For TurboC you should also copy
  38. the *.PRJ files, and for QuickC the *.MAK files.

  44. The install programs are designed to install from the diskette drive A:. 
  45. When you un-ARC the software you should copy it to a diskette, or amend the 
  46. install program to work from your hard disc!

  62. Shareware is a software marketing concept that allows potential users
  63. of a software product to thoroughly test and investigate it before
  64. committing to license it.  The concept is nicknamed "try before you buy".
  65.  
  66. A true shareware version of a product is fully featured software, not 
  67. "crippleware", and the "c_wndw" and "c_ndx" libraries are excellent
  68. examples of this.  The only feature specific to the shareware is the
  69. shareware message window that appears at the start of each program.

  71. If you like and use the "c_wndw" and "c_ndx" libraries, please subscribe
  72. and get the full benefits of being a registered user.

  178. 2. Hints and recommendations

  181. 2.a. Microsoft C 
  182. ----------------
  183.  
  184.  When using the QuickC debugger or Codeview you may notice that some key 
  185.  entries go astray.  This is a problem with Microsoft C.  You can get around
  186.  this by setting SAVEWAIT to zero during the debugging sessions.
  187.  
  188.  The libraries require QuickC version 2.0 or equivalent Microsoft C 5.x.  The 
  189.  libraries do not work with Microsoft C 4.x or earlier versions.

  191.  If you have QuickC 1.0, the sample programs will probably compile and work,
  192.  but with linker errors.  We recommend you upgrade to the vastly superior
  193.  QuickC 2.0!

  195.  The MAK files are very useful, but you will probably need to modify them
  196.  before you can use them.

  198.  By the way, when you register we supply a QuickC QuickHelp format file.

  200. 2.b. Turbo C
  201. ------------
  202.  
  203.  The libraries require Turbo C 2.0.  If you have 1.0 or 1.5, the sample 
  204.  programs will probably work with linker errors, but 2.0 is strongly
  205.  recommended.

  207. 2.c. ASP
  208. --------
  209.  
  210.  These libraries are produced by Marietta Systems, a member of the Association
  211.  of Shareware Professionals (ASP).  ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
  212.  principle works for you.  If you are unable to resolve a shareware-related
  213.  problem with an ASP member by contacting the member directly, ASP may be able
  214.  to  help.  The ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem with
  215.  an ASP member, but it does not provide technical support for members'

  223. compile and link these programs under the Turboc and QuickC environments.
